How We Calculate Our Reliability Scores

Learn about the methodology behind our flight reliability metrics

Reliability Scores

We know how important it is to book flights that run on time. No one wants to be stuck at the airport, miss a connection, or have their plans thrown into chaos. That’s why we’ve developed our own reliability scoring system to help you choose the best flights, airlines, and routes.

What Goes Into Our Scores

1

On-Time Performance

We start by looking at how many flights arrive on schedule. But there’s more to our scoring than just being on time!

2

Our Statistical Methodology

Behind the scenes, we use a robust statistical approach that factors in how many flights we have data for, so one or two flights can’t unfairly skew the results. This helps us produce a more accurate measure of reliability.

3

Cancellations & Major Delays

Because a canceled flight or a major delay can really mess up your travel plans, we apply extra penalties to our scores whenever they happen. Think of these as “bonus deductions” for the worst kinds of disruptions.

4

Sufficient Data Points

We only publish a score when we have enough information—usually that means at least three flights in our database. If we don’t have enough data yet, we’ll show N/A so you’re not misled by an unreliable rating.

Why Our Scores Change

We calculate our scores over different timeframes - 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or even a full year. This helps capture both short-term trends (like a sudden spike in cancellations) and long-term patterns (like an airline’s consistent reliability over many months). We also publish tables and reports showing how these rankings change over time, so you can spot improvements or declines.

The Color-Coded Rankings

To make things simpler, we convert each reliability score into an easy-to-read label:

Great
80%
80%+

Highest level of reliability

Good
60%
60%+

Ok
45%
45%+
Poor
20%
20%+
Avoid
0%
0%+

The worst score. Book at your own risk!

N/a

Not enough data

This color-coding gives you a quick way to decide if a flight or airline meets your standards, without digging into detailed stats.

Why You Can Trust Our Method

Our goal is to give you honest, up-to-date information that’s easy to understand. We don’t rely on a single factor (like just on-time percentage). Instead, we combine on-time performance with a specialized statistical methodology and apply extra penalties for cancellations and major delays. We keep the precise details under wraps to protect our “secret sauce,” but rest assured each score is carefully crafted to reflect real-world reliability.

TL;DR

We crunch the numbers so you don’t have to. Our system helps you quickly see which flights and airlines are most reliable, so you can book with confidence and (hopefully) avoid any travel headaches.
